How to change output device on a Windows computer?

Sometimes, when plugging in a new device such as a monitor, headset or speakers - the output device may link to them or stay as it was.

To change what output device the computer plays audio from, follow the steps below:

      1. Firstly open the sound settings on your device - Search for "sound settings" on the computer and a menu should then pop up.

      2. Secondly check what device is set to the output - if it is not the device you need, toggle the correct one.

      3. In some cases, the device you have chose may have been accidentally disabled which makes the output not work.

You can check this by seeing under the name of device and it should say either disabled/enabled.

      4. If disabled, open the devices properties, you should be able to open it by just clicking the device.

Then under General -> Audio, it will either say "Allow" (when device is disabled) or "Don't allow" (when device is enabled).

If it says "Allow", click that and the device will be enabled.

You can then go back to the previous page and select the output device.

      5. Rarely, the device you are looking for may not even appear in the output devices if it has been disabled.

To check, go back to the "Sound Settings" page and scroll down until you see "All sound devices"  and click it.

6. Once clicked, it will take you to another page that should show all the linked devices.

Similar to steps 2-4, you should be able to click the correct output device and enable it.

Then go back to the original page (sound settings) and select the output device.
