In this article we use a HP laptop as example, however the steps will mostly be the same.
You can also substitute Camera for Microphone in some instances as this can help with no Microphone issues as well.
Check for a physical privacy switch on the side of the laptop or a camera shutter key on the F-row of the keyboard
.
If no physical switch or button is present, you may need to use the Windows Camera Settings to enable the camera or ensure it's not disabled in Device Manager.
Look for a physical switch:
Check the sides of your laptop or near the webcam lens for a small slider or switch.
Find the shutter key:
Look for a function key (F1-F12) with a camera icon.
You may need to press it with or without the FN key held down at the same time the Fn key (e.g., Fn + F6).
Check for a light:
A small LED light next to the shutter key indicates the camera's status;
a light on means the camera is off, while a light off means it's on.
Use Windows settings
Open Camera Settings: Press the Windows key + I to open Settings, then go to Bluetooth & devices > Cameras.
Enable camera access: Select the camera from the list and click the Enable button to turn it on.
Check Device Manager
Open Device Manager:
Press the Windows key, type "Device Manager", and press Enter.
Expand Cameras:
Find and expand the "Cameras" or "Imaging devices" category.
Enable the device: Right-click on your camera and select "Enable device" if it is disabled.
