How to install Mindomo on your DSA awarded laptop or Apple Mac
General install and validation notes.
Download the Mindomo app for your Operating system/device, scroll down until you see WIndows, Mac etc listed.
Install on your device, then use your 8 digit or 25 digit key in app:
Mindomo Desktop → “i” icon → License Info → Validate
Or, if that does not work try the below.
Step 1: Sign Up

Sign up on our website to create a free account. Choose the “Personal & Work” functionality for your account, and follow the instructions for creating your account.
Step 2: Confirm your Account and Login
Confirm your account by clicking on “Confirm Account” from the confirmation email we sent and log in.
Step 3: Activate your License
Click on your profile picture located in the top-right corner of the screen. From the dropdown menu, select "Activate License".
Enter your license key into the input box, then click "Activate".
Once done, or if that activation/validation does not work, with either Mac or Windows sign up for an online Mindomo account. Use the email registered with us, or if an email invite was received follow the instructions.
This MAY give access to Mindomo online/enable you to sign into your University online Mindomo EDU recources/portal.
How Mindomo DSA Licence Activation Actually Works
Mindomo Desktop only validates keys through its built‑in licensing panel:
The “two‑block 8‑digit key” you receive (Study Tech key)
This is the Desktop Licence Block.
It is meant to be pasted directly into:
Mindomo Desktop → “i” icon → License Info → Validate
Formatting issues
Mindomo is extremely strict — even a missing newline or space breaks validation.
Wrong licence type
Mindomo has:
Lifetime / Premium Desktop licences - Likely not from Study Tech, may work online
Education / Cloud licences - not from Study Tech
DSA supplier-issued blocks - From Study Tech almost definitely
Only Desktop‑compatible keys activate the app. Mindomo has two fundamentally different licence types, as above.
Not all licence keys will validate online, any Study Tech supply in theory should in the downloaded app.
Some school networks block Mindomo’s activation endpoint. this WILL result in an invalid license message, not a connection error in some instances. It is recommended to try a non Uni connection and potentially, non Uni user profile on WIndows/Mac to see if the error persists.
Windows install and validate.
Open the app → click the “i” icon → License Info”.
Paste the full licence block exactly as supplied (name, key, date). 4x4 digits or 5x5 digits.
Any missing spaces or formatting breaks activation.
Click Validate.
Mac install.
Step 1: Uninstall Previous Version (if applicable)
If you already have Mindomo installed, it's recommended to uninstall it first:
- Open Finder → go to Applications
- Right-click on Mindomo Desktop → select Move to Trash
- Remove leftover files:

Library > Caches→ delete Mindomo Desktop - Go to
Library > Preferences→ delete Mindomo Desktop

💾 Step 2: Download the Installer
- Visit the official download page: Mindomo Desktop Download
- Download the
.pkgfile (e.g.,Mindomo_v.11.0.9_arm.pkg) for macOS
🛠️ Step 3: Install Mindomo
- Double-click the downloaded
.pkgfile - Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation
- Launch Mindomo Desktop from Applications
🔐 Step 4: Activate Your License
You can activate Mindomo in two ways depending on your license type:
A. Lifetime License
- You’ll receive an email with:
- Name
- License Key
- Purchase Date
- Open Mindomo → click the “i” icon → go to License Info
- Paste the license details exactly as received → click Validate
B. Subscription-Based License
- Open Mindomo → click the “i” icon → go to License Info
- Click Sign In to Activate
- Enter your Mindomo online account credentials
- Your subscription will be automatically activated
☁️ Step 5: Sync & Use
- You can work offline or sync diagrams to the cloud
- To sync:
- Click the Cloud icon in the app
- Log in with your Mindomo account
- Diagrams will auto-sync when online
