How to access your serial key based Office 2021 or 2024 Installation, your keyless Office 365 via Uni email, and accessing your email and Microsoft Office or Office 365 apps.

 

Microsoft Office is awarded by using your University email/Login in most instances. Microsoft have an agreement to supply Office to most University/higher education providers DSA student in the UK.
In Most instances this is handled by the University Microsoft managed email address and has nothing to do with/cannot be accessed or installed by Study Tech or other DSA AT suppliers.
Exceptions can/are made for distance learning/network students.
Some Universities or higher education providers do not qualify.

If you have been provided a product key for Microsoft Office, still try the methods below to activate your product before trying the "manual methods" listed last in this article.

To download\activate your copy of Microsoft Office 365 Education you must have a University/School provided Microsoft email account. If you don’t have a Microsoft email account, then you will need to request one from your School/University before you can activate your Microsoft Office.

Once you have signed in you can access your School/University email here.

This email account is also needed if you wish to reinstall your Microsoft Office and need to activate it again.

To activate your Microsoft Office 365, simply launch a Microsoft Office application i.e. Microsoft Word. Then follow the on-screen instructions.

In most instances we advise that you NOT apply the Organisation (University) policies when installing Office as this has caused conflicts in the past/can lead to you being unable to access full administrator privileges on your device.

if it is required to apply the Organisation (University) policy in order to access University specific software/pages (EG Canvas) we recommend creating a separate/second account/user profile on your laptop or PC with Administrator privileges before installing Office using the first user profile/your default profile/University email/profile..

You will still be able to access your apps/Office on that second profile/Administrative user in most instances.

Office 365 and Apple Mac's, and/or Universities where the office 365 license is unavailable or not set up.

We are not sure why, but we see a lot of instances of the Apple/Mac version of 365 being incorrectly setup/not setup at all by Universities.

In that instance, usually a serial key version of the product is your best bet, as Uni tech support will usually be unwilling to help if the number of Mac users at the University is low.

While it can be possible, with a lot of time and effort to get DSA/SLC to fund an Office key, we normally recommend getting a key from sites like stack social.

It is possible to get cheaper keys from sites like Groupon for less than £10, however these will be "Gray Market" OEM keys, not actually designed for consumers and there will be extra steps involved in activation/actually getting a key, usually via a two set key and security code for a random website.

While we do know this works, have never had a student/anyone say they have not received the product and is not illegal it is something Microsoft are known to frown on.

However, we know of no other downsides, save that the license will be machine specific and non transferable in most instances.

We would be unable to offer any assistance with these keys in most instances, but note again that if instructions are followed they seem to work with no issues.

Using a serial key to activate Office 2019, 2021 or 2024.

In the first instance, while signed into your Microsoft account online you should attempt to redeem your key here.

if that does not work, or you see a message saying the key is invalid, download the installer for your software direct from here and try again.
